I curated and produced a unique one-night-only cinematic program at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). Through a dynamic “TV special” of short films across genres and forms, I situate Blackqueer creatives utilizing Lo-Fi and D-I-Y aesthetics in the artistic continuum of the Black Diaspora. With video interludes sprinkled throughout the night, I continued to build a fabulous world around my experimental documentary, a_blurred_fluxx_00.avi. Through this engaging, multifaceted program, I showcased to a packed crowd the research, thoughts, communities, and audiovisual projects that craft space for the complexity of Blackqueer folks. To build anticipation for and develop an understanding of the event, I crafted an ecstatic rollout and design that audiovisually and materially encompassed the multidimensionality of the program.

While conceptualizing FLUXX, I reflected on memories from my childhood, waking up early on a school day to catch MTV or VH1 music video shows on TV. Remembering these feelings of excitement, I approached FLUXX as if it were a pilot episode for a television program. The FLUXX video interludes zoom in and linger on a spectrum of social relations and communities in active formation, turning theoretical concepts into starting points for conversations and realizations. These interludes explore topics such as Afropresentism, glitch feminism, queer futurity, the Black ratchet imagination, and more, through scenes of everyday moments intertwined with surreal, fantastical, and at times comedic happenings, featuring many personable talents.
My synthesis of knowledge around the beautiful complexities of Blackqueerness allows audiences to see and hear the expansive potentials in humanity, self-making, and the formation of genuine communities of support through these video interludes in between each film as well as the overall program.

I charmingly glide through these vibrant, bold video interludes with the confident suavity of a video jockey, keeping the packed audience on their toes across this hybrid range of audiovisual flows. By merging forms of popular culture, academia, and art in an energetic display, the program's alluring audiovisual interplay possesses the youthful energy of a deep meditation and a thrilling joyride, with the score infused with a range of dance music, adding an extra spark to the visuals. With outfit changes, wearing Luar runway looks, a dance party during the end credits, and moderating an intergenerational post-screening discussion/Q&A, I created a memorable night for many.
