I produced a special program at the 30th Black Harvest Film Festival in Chicago for the North American Premiere of my short film, a_blurred_fluxx_00.avi. This dynamic, engaging, and multi-focus live art showcase highlights my research and artistic works, illuminating Blackqueer creatives using Lo-Fi and D-I-Y audiovisual aesthetics within the Black diaspora. The event also featured an enriching viewing of my award-winning short, jamaica_all in awe.avi, inviting audiences to connect with and appreciate the depth of these innovative, creative expressions. To help my social media audience and attendees build anticipation for and develop an understanding of the event, I crafted a strategic rollout and design that audiovisually and materially displays the ethos of my aesthetic foundation.

To announce my festival event, I created an audiovisual trailer that hints at audiovisual themes in my films and thesis presentation. The film also teases the table set up of various objects in my personal and creative spaces that reveal my aesthetic influences. This video was first posted on social media and played during the introduction of the PRESENTation.

For the deck design, I chose to focus on composition and space as a simplistic tool to draw focus to text and image, as well as my voice filling the physical space with growing knowledge. Using lines as connecting points and the pixelated background draws visual inspiration from the end credits of a_blurred_fluxx_00.avi.

The PRESENTation

I turned a research presentation and film screening into a live art performance of knowledge with creative interruptions, interactions with the audience, lighting changes, and playing with the screen display. The table arrangement I assembled for the PRESENTation is a collection of objects of discovery and reflections on my media influences, personal history, and interior spaces. They reflect my diasporic connections and creative explorations as tools of personal discovery, becoming an archive of my belongings.

I curated a playlist to sonically showcase a glimpse into my growing aesthetic grounding in the connective space of Lo-Fi and D-I-Y audiovisual textures. This playlist played throughout the PRESENTation, serving as background productions for my voice.
